I am not saying that but it is possible that trading shares of GLD might offer advantages that trading futures does not. I am not aware of what they are.

The authorized participants are simply shorting shares and delivering a corresponding amount of gold to get newly issued shares to cover the shorts, or they are buying shares at a discount to turn in for gold.

But all the participants are part of firms that have many books of business.

The Vet replied to a post I made mainly in jest but he opened my eyes to what the volume of trading and timing in trades might indicate in terms of when a purchase of gold for delivery to the ETF has been made.
