JFK, FDR, Gore, Romney and the Bushes are/were also major dilettantes and Reagan was the Hollywood elite. The only truly middleclass presidents we've had in modern times have been Clinton and Nixon.

Does an upperclass candidate mean he can't appeal to the middleclass? Not at all. FDR did the poor and workingclass more good than any president. The Kennedys have always stood up for the poor and workingclass. The Bushes however serve the corporate elite. As did Reagan and Nixon. In fact the Bushes care more about the Saudis than average Americans.

Kerry doesn't come from money but was associated with it. He own family didn't have enough to pay for his tuition so a rich Aunt helped him. Therefore, he can see both sides of the fence. More important, he has a record of helping the middleclass, including all veterans who are mainly lower middleclass. His big issue in 2004 was stopping the war on the middleclass. He picked Edwards as his running mate who is a pure middleclass populist. Remember?

So what do you want? Joe Sixpack for President? Good luck trying to find him. That's a fantasy, not reality. Even Obama went to Harvard Law. He became part of the elite very quickly.
Kerry's not perfect but he may the best we have. If Gore doesn't run at least. Kerry would also make a truly great president. To me that's the important thing.
