(I've been pretty much beating the 'Sunnis and Shiites will fight', with support from 'Saudi Arabia, Gulf Arabs, and Persians' drum now for SOME YEARS here on this thread.)

No great insight... the preponderance of evidence all points that way: great oil wealth to fight over, unresolved religious conflicts going back centuries that have FREQUENTLY sparked conflict and wars, racial/ethnic conflicts, the sensitivity the Gulf Sunni Arabs have because of their *own* large and repressed Shiite minorities, the naturalness of the two main sides butting heads in a contest for regional dominance... the *real politik* of it, the HISTORIC EXAMPLE (just a decade or so back!) of the Iran/Iraq Gulf War --- with over one million killed, etc., etc., etc.
