If you aid in the partitian[sic] it might lessen the civil war. and cause a regional war which would include turkey, iran, syria etc. you have no idea what you're talking about. Nonsense. Iran, Turkey and Syria are not going to invade Iraq if it partitions. They see the "quagmire" the US is in, why would they create their own quagmire by invading a partitioned Iraq? Suppose the Kurds, with US support, attempt to secede from Iraq and declare their own nation. How do you see Iran and/or Turkey being pulled into a "regional war" as a result of Kurdish efforts at independence?

I think the best thing we could do would be to tell the government we're going to withdraw to Kurdistan by a date certain. Then, keep an eye on the civil war while keeping the Turks from invading Kurdistan. The jihaddis would follow us to Kurdistan, which the Kurds might not like, but they wouldn't recieve the support from the population there they do in the south. The Iraqis will determine their own fate, sooner or later. We might keep the civil war at a level more or less where it is now, but we have no ability to end it. We find ourselves with the problem Saddam had SOLVED. Not being Saddam, we can't. Nor could we support a government that would use Saddam's methods.
