Generally Americans just don't seem to get this. We don't have to "get this" because we don't have social upheaval like you're talking about. Which tends to prove my point (one of my points), Jay and I are looking at this from completely different perspectives. I live in a country where land hasn't been appropriated without compensation for centuries. Sure, your land can be sold in order to pay off your mortgage and other debts, but even that has a lot of safeguards built in to protect the property owner. It's like (OK, I am exaggerating for effect here) being lectured on the dangers of the tsetse fly by someone in Africa when you live in Iceland.
