The idea is over the long term if the US is strongly allied with Israel and Kurdistan, it would be easier to push US interests in Lebanon, and hopefully squeeze Hezbollah into Syria or wherever. It's hard for me to understand the factions in Lebanon that are pro-Syria (presumably instead of being pro-Lebanon). What faction wants to cede control to a foreign power?

They don't but they do want to control the Lebanese gov't. Later they will consider of the consequences of Syrian support but for now, the main goal is seizing power.
