What does it imply about Fab30-->Fab38 and/or Chartered. Me: So you finally took me off ignore. Given your personality I knew you couldn't ignore me for long, not that you ever really did. Nice to see you coming out of the closet though. You don't get it do you? Fab 30 will not convert all at once, but as needed and probably to 45nm capable equipment. 90nm will continue to be produced in fab30 during the conversion until there is no longer any need for the product. Given the apparent success of the Chartered deal I wouldn't be surprised if there is an expansion in the commitment, especially if Chartered's 65nm mirrors AMD's like I expect. Since Chartered already uses AMD's APM I would guess that the 65nm processes are very similar.uk.biz.yahoo.com The bouncing ball to concentrate on is that AMD will expand capacity as needed, which from the sounds of it, will be much needed over the next few years. you: Regarding the Q4 guidance, "In the Q&A someone asked about q4 GMs to which Rivet responded that he wouldn't comment, but he replied that AMD liked to meet guidance and then give a glance that left little doubt that AMD was going to meet those increased expectations." Priceless. The faithful now interpret mere glances to mean what they want to hear. me: Well, while I would have to agree that a glance is hardly confirmation, it's been my experience that sometimes more is said in a look than could ever be transmitted vocally. We'll have to see, but a couple of points gain in AMD's GMs, not the combined AMD, seems reasonable given the increased q4 volume. Of course this would depend on ASPs, but given INTC's rather pathetic GMs of q3 I doubt if INTC has much interest in causing more damage to itself than AMD by pressuring pricing too much in Q4.
