Wow McCain is brilliant! Considering that Iraq is already in unbelievable chaos and has disintgrated as an entity and that AQ has spread itself into more countries, McCain sees that all will be saved with 15,000-30,000 more troops.

Someone must have told him that there are only 20,000 but Dubya is still pushing for 40,000. Maybe Dubya will just double count people and say it's 40,000.

I wonder if either of them have figured out what exactly the strategy is. If Maliki stays in power, Iran is happy. If they overthrow him democracy is a joke. If al-Sadr goes, do the Baathists come back? The Kurds will only be happy in an all-Kurd country with all of the northern oil fields to themselves.

What is the end game exactly?

It is hard to see how 10-20% more troops will suffice. If they really want to try the higher force option, they should put another 100K in there, and disarm the entire country.

Unfortunately, it still does not address the deep seated hatred of both the USA and of Shia/Sunni's for each other. It might temporarily quell the violence, but it will come back once we reduce strength.

Someone should suggest to our religious President that he read about how God himself decided the best course of action after removing an ancient ruler of Baghdad was to reinstall him (I think Babylon = Baghdad??).
