The US uses 25% of the worlds oil. Oil is a commodity that trades at the margin. Cut US consumption and prices will fall dramatically. Technology is available to at minimum double fleet gas efficiency.

How about athletes and entertainers?

How about them? They don't steel there money, they get their money because of the demand for what they provide. Why should you get to cap their salary?

And if athletes salaries are capped most of the savings would just go to the even richer owners (for other entertainers its similar if a bit more complex), or are you going to force price controls in addition to wage controls?
