No question that INTC shares have idled for several yrs now.

Does ADI sharehold gain? I can not argue that there are benefits to shareholders. Intel does have one of the leading semi manufacturing operations. ADI would have some benefits from this in terms of production technology, but is that enough to justify a merger? No, IMO.

Basic growth would only happen if the overall semi industry needs more parts. World-wide the trend is upward, but has been scaled back somewhat recently in forcasts.

ADI/Intel would be the top company in many semi product area. DSP's is something Intel has almost no exposure to. ADI does have DSP experience but as noted, they are not the market leader. It is a crowed field. Perhaps not akin to Microsoft trying to get their MP3 player to challenge the iPod. Tough sell.
