What exactly do you see on your A-GPS CDMA screen - indoors?

So far, every thing that I see outdoors, I also see indoors. I have a fast web access and can use the VZ Navigator program to find local businesses and their phone numbers. This is the basic idea of Location-Based Services. The Navigator program gives turn-by-turn voice and screen instructions to find your destination. One can see were one needs to go – before the leaving the house. Very cool, IMO.

Corridors and basement cafeterias? Does it tell you to take a left by the copying machine?

We probably will need to wait for the European version to assist those late-night drinkers trying to get home from the pub.

What if you don't even have cell signal indoors -still works?

So far on the Verizon network, I’ve always had a signal when needed. I don’t go spelunking or backpacking anymore, so I’m probably safe for now. I have dropped calls while driving on the interstate highways.

Seriously, from a technical standpoint, even a GPS receiver with many thousands of correlators will have difficulty finding signals while indoors from a cold start without assistance. One would need to move outdoors to get a position fix the way a traditional GPS receiver works. If the mobile has a “full” GPS receiver capable of getting a fix by itself, it would still need to have a map database stored within the phone – given no cell coverage.

Warmest regards
