I thought Hawkeye was the cross-dresser. He wanted out of the army, so he put on dresses to try and get kicked out. Didn't work, but that didn't stop him from adopting it as his shtick.

On the TV show Klinger (Jamie Farr) was the cross dresser. I don't know if he was in the movie.
