There is some confusion between the terms. AUTHORIZED SHARES are the legal limit that a company can issue. Often it is raised to cover periods years in advance.

The number that is used in valuation formulae is ISSUED & OUTSTANDING shares.

The FLOAT is what determines the day to day share price.

Be careful that negative posters often talk about an increase in AUTHORIZED shares as if it were "proof" of dilution.
