Reid said he would support a troop escalation for a few months and no longer. Certainly not for the many years Bush intends.

It's an interesting stance:

1. kinda, sorta support troop escalation so that no one can say the Dems didn't want to 'win' the thing.

2. don't support Bush's endless involvement in the disintegration of Iraq.

3. push the Iraqis to compromise.

4. put failure squarely in Bush's court
