Karbala: Civil defence members have discovered a mass grave in Kerbala, south of Baghdad.

Residents and officials were able to retrieve skeletons of 53 people from the burial site.

Iraqi officials said the grave dated back to the 1991 Shiite Shaabaniya revolt in Kerbala.

They blamed the government of former dictator Saddam Hussain for the massacre.
