ALU's into China operations and partnerships. I don't see much for co's on that side of the pond (except for a few in Japan) that do this...

Verizon Communications Inc. signed an agreement today with five major Asian TELECOM carriers to build the first high-speed trans-Pacific undersea cable system directly linking the U.S. and CHINA.

Under terms of the arrangement, the project's $500 million cost will be divided roughly evenly among the six partners. Construction of the cable system is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2007 and to be completed in the third quarter of 2008, in time for the Beijing Olympics.
