Was that sarcasm, Jochen? I couldn't tell without hearing or seeing you.

It's my own little agenda with Hanson. Too many "weasel"-kind of accusations against Germany and other countries.

The threat was a call by an anonymous tipster

No, originally it was an abstract threat analysis by the federal agency "Landeskriminalamt" (kind of FBI of Berlin). They wrote that the opera led to an increased threat level. The interior minister of Berlin had a phone call with the opera director, Mrs. Harms, about these findings.

Mrs. Harms decided to cancel the performance but changed her mind after the public discussion.

and the police were concerned that they couldn't protect the performers.

Certainly no concern of the police.

Although I suppose the tipster could be a lover of traditional opera taking it into his own hands to protect Mozart from such sacrilege.

Your remark about music and sacrilege reminded me of my latest musical adventure, Radio Hanukkah. It's about the time of the year when you can't tune in any radio station without hearing Christmas music and when I'm getting pretty tired of it so, for a change of pace, I gave Radio Hanukkah, a new offering on XM, a try. Of course, the music was all unfamiliar to me except for Adam Sandler's song.

This morning on my way to the pool I heard a rap piece about eating latkes and getting naked and a variation on the dreidel song about getting Christians to sing it. Each had me laughing, as much as I can muster a laugh at six in the morning, that is. And thinking about how nice it is to have a sense of humor about one's culture.
