I think our troops are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing in Iraq. Problem is that you can't tell the bad guys til they blow themselves up. Then, it's hard to kill the enemy when his suicide belt has him scattered into a thousand body parts. I don't care if we doubled the number of troops, it won't enable our troops to predict who is going set off the newxt suicide belt. Our mission is to help Iraq RESPOND to the terrorism within their own country. All we can do to PREVENT the attacks is to sweep the country for weapons. Our offensive opportunities are very limited, but they need a high level of troops to RESPOND to the terrorist attacks throughout the country. I don't see many reports anymore about Iraqi troops attacking large groups of insurgents. In fact, most of the large scale attacks have been against the Shi'a militia in recent reports.

I would love to keep as many US troops in Iraq as possible. Obviously, I support anyone that wants to participate in the war 100%. Once we begin to withdraw troops, I'm sure a lot of US troops will be sad they don't have their jobs anymore. I still think we need the maximum number of troops to support the Iraqi government.

I think we are slowing down the conflict between the Sunnis and the Shi'a. I think our force of democracy is creating more dialogue and trust between the 2 groups. Without the US, I think the Shiites would have wiped out the Sunnis. I think we are slowing teaching these Muslims how to get along. They have been living in a medieval society. It's going to take a generation to pull these people into tolerance and respect for each other. IMO, we can't possibly underestimate the fact that these people are basically living in a time warp of basic instincts.
