Syntroleum Corp. (SYNM) up over 50% on this news.

Be careful with this one. Synm has been a story stock ever since it went public in 1997. Had a different name but it debuted at $30+, then plummeted to $5 or so.

Over the last 10 years, it spiked 25-50% after different business news releases, none of which has ever really panned out. The news events usually involve setting up a demo, receiving a govt contract, or partnering with somebody on research. The owners were the Agee brothers, who cashed out millions and then retired.

I wouldn't touch it as a short...too volatile at this point...but I certainly wouldn't go long either.

I remember the days - back in 2001 or so - when SYNM was signing letters of intent with the old PGO for doing GTL on the FPSOs (floating platform storage offloading?). They were still flaring a lot of gas - maybe still are. It seemed like a brilliant move to me. It wasn't enough to save PGO.

Anybody know what is going on with that process/technology???
