I can't help myself from making one contribution.

The role of the church in Latin America is a perfect example of how difficult it is to generalize about the role of large institutions in complex societies.

The Catholic church was probably the greatest force in institutionalizing oppression and exploitation of the poor and indigenous in Latin America through colonial times. However, the Catholic church through liberation theology was also essential to the anti-colonialist forces that rid Latin America of most of the oppressive regimes in the last few decades of the last millennium.

More recently, the right wingers have been introducing Protestant fundamentalism, esp. in Central America, as a means to combat the Catholic-inspired liberationists, and as part of the effort to re-establish right wing regimes.

I am of course oversimplifying, but that's necessary to give you just a hint of the ever-shifting coalitions around institutions like churches. Churches can be good and bad at the same time, and I avoid entering them whenever possible.

OK, that's my last word on the subject, at least till the weekend.

Marcos,
I think we will have a great year in 2007. I am going to stick with my main 4. Reason? All of these have great management, location and metal in the ground with exploration upside and are in or close to production*. Except *MMG which is little further out for production but do they have the metal or what?

2007 and 2008 or BUST! WGI/WGDF, POM/PLM, MMG, GGC.

I currently own QEE and GGN in addition to those 4. I plan on selling QEE very soon. GGN still up in the air on. I know not enough but for half the year of 2006 I had two stocks for the most part. LOL.

Will look at CAU, WDO, AUN, RIC and others etc as potential additions.

Is GGC gong to fill the 2.30 gap someone mentioned on SH?

I always took the wrong path less travelled, figuring I had miles to go before I slept in the woods on some snowy evening, and at any rate I could always line cut a trail across to the well beaten paths to see what had attracted all those folks, if I got bored.

So many people falling off the path, so many stories, so few on the scenic train travelling luxury, with so few moral compunctions and so little milk of HK.

Back to chopping wood on the portage. Anyone have a map handy please forward to:
