OT I don't think that huge deficits in a near full employment economy are good. However, we can very easily neutralize the effect of a hefty gas tax on the economy by cutting other taxes by an equal amount. We won't eliminate the deficit then, but we do get the main benefit of drastically reducing oil consumption and crashing the price of oil. Alternatively, we can introduce the tax gradually over a few years.
