Most OB stocks are not held by funds and most of the current stockholders bought the stock based on their own DD and not because of the paid for reports!
DYSL is a much smaller company but their filings are available to all for free. I believe the fees paid for the reports exceed the accounting costs to satisfy the requirements.

Not too many.

Since these are mostly tiny companies that will stay tiny, there is little incentive to cover them, i.e. potential for underwriting fees, etc.

I wouldn't describe what Taglich Brothers does as "research" - at least not according to this definition:

noun: systematic investigation to establish facts

Their purpose is not to establish facts, but to justify a pre-established conclusion: buy. It's a backwards sort of research in which the conclusion comes first, being based on financial considerations rather than facts. A subset of available facts is then selected to match the conclusion.

Looking at their recent (Dec 11th) report, the sections on R&D and Competition are nothing but short paragraphs of boilerplate. There is no evidence that they have in-house expertise in the field of high shear fluid processing systems; they just repeat basic information about the industry obtained from the company's SEC filings and website. The report consists mainly of trivial number-crunching and linear growth projections.

A top priority of MFIC management should be moving up and off the Bulletin Board.
