As I mused earlier... the Prez seems ensconced on that 'river' called Denial.

Another $170 Billion for the wars in fiscal 2007 (baring any not-yet-requested 'emergency' supplementals.)

(Bush perhaps so focused on how history might 'regard' him, that he can see little else at this point but previously chewed-over policy options.)

The US domestic political considerations (if one can temporarily put aside the pain to consider the mechanics of the train wreck) are fascinating. As I posted:

If I were a 'Dem', and was motivated only by an interest in narrow partisan gains, regardless of the potential harm that could be done to American national interests and the well-being of the nation... I'd be ECSTATIC at having Bush acting the way he currently is.

(For, the longer he persists in his mind-numbingly ill-advised and counter-productive 'tactics' in Iraq, the *greater* the damage that he does to the G.O.P.'s prospects in 2008. Another year of this and the Dems could probably run Mickey Mouse as a candidate and still win the Presidency and increase their margins in the Senate, the House, and State Houses all over.)

The most important political game in town becomes HOW DOES THE G.O.P. DEFEND ITSELF FROM THIS 'INSIDE THE PERIMETER' DISASTER?

We may not have the answer to that last question until well into summertime.
