Kris, I worked my entire career in retail. The stock prices don't correlate day by day to the underlying business. The extra shopping day is a big deal. Everyone waits until the end to complete their shopping. The last 2 days before Christmas are the biggest of the year. The biggest shopping day of the year gets compared to a prior year of zero. That adds a huge chunk to comparable store sales for the December period.

I'm not saying every retailer is going to blow away estimates. I am saying that I think the Christmas shopping season is solid. There will be sales and earnings misses and those are opportunities if you can find them because nearly all retailers have run up.

If you are thinking that the Christmas season is an overall bust, I don't think that's correct.
