It's not a smear to blame Nader. Nader lied to the voters by telling us that Gore and Bush were just as bad as each other, despite Nader supposedly being "Green", and Gore being a longtime major environmental champion, while Bush was a pawn for the pollution lobby, which we can all see very clearly now. Nader got 98,000 votes in Florida 2000. He could have easily flipped the election to Gore even with Jeb's cheating, because Jeb could not steal that many votes. So Nader gave us Bush. Like it or not, that's just true. I fought very hard in 2000 to try and convince Naderites to come to their senses, but they arrogantly refused saying "if not now, then when?" It was a really stupid awful thing to do.
