When Lieberman was on the ticket, the press did not raise the issue of of a Jewish person being a heartbeat away from the Presidency. Now people are talking about the religious beliefs of Mitt Romney, the Muslim name of Barack etc. Come to think of it, the Muslim world is winning. We all hate this thought but it is reality. Muslim Iran is thumbing its nose at the US. Muslim Saudi Arabia dictates to our VP about the life and death situation of our troops. Muslim Palestine embraced our system of democracy and voted in Hamas, an organization we call terrorist. The approach wherein we use religion to view issues does not get us to where we want to be. Instead it produces the opposite result. I would hope that the majority of the American people would shut out the religious extremists in our community before we can expect the Muslim moderates to speak out against their Islamic extremists. Looking at Obama's candidacy and for that matter even Romney's without introducing any discussion of religion would be a great achievement of American people.
