I agree with the last statement 100%. Most people lack the ability to understand the point that Muslim terrorists are talibanizing their own people. I have no problem with your disdain for the evangelicals, most of them are rednecks. Even the enlightened ones that can carry on a conversation bother me. Personally, I try to keep my morals to myself. Free will is a personal decision of faith and belief. You can't force it on other people.

I think religion is a mental illness and a lot of people have it. The more a person is into religion, the worse the illness is for them. No surprise to me that the evangelicals are republicans.

Religion? Yes.. Because religions are based around man's interpretations of how they should worship the Supreme Being(s). And when those interpretations include the use of violence to spread their belief system, then it's obviously a sign of mental illness, or just plain old "law of the jungle".

But moderation and tolerance, IMO, are the true displays of religiousity. They are the foundations of what I perceive "God" expects from his creations.

So, the minute I see Christian fundamentalists employing violence to enforce their parochial religious beliefs (such as bombing abortion clinics), then I count them as terrorists as well.

True religion should never encourage violence to force others to subscribe to their religious or moral beliefs.

But of course, a legal system that is sustained and agreed to by the majority of society is the appropriate means of enforcing widely agreed upon moral values (do not murder.. steal, rape.. etc).
