In '79 when I worked for Cominco on an Ontario base metal search, we coined a slogan for our camp, based on the Cominco Logo, which was a sort of gear with rounded indents, which we though looked a like a bottle cap. We has sweatshirts made up saying in an arc around the company bottle cap log, MacVicar Lake, No Deposit, No Return.. At the time it was thought that we were running out of Zinc deposits worldwide. That was before the Red Dog. The company had a more prosaic exploration slogan, "Think Zinc." They had a proprietary substance called Cominco Zinc Zap which was some ammoniated thingie which turned yellow when it hit zinc sulphides. They also did a lot of geochem. Zinc sulphide is not conductive. It was standard to do a horde of soil, lake bottom streams and process them in camp with dithizone, which was a preliminary chemical screening for anomalies. Cominco has never had much luck with all its geochems, and never was much of gold exploration company. Strangely the story of gold geochem, A and B horizon is quite successful in Ontario, finding much of the gold in the Mishibishu/Pukawkswa area (Central Crude). Cominco had done a geochem till survey in Timmins which revealed the existence of the Kidd Creek deposit if you knew how to interpret it, but they called it inconclusive.
