If you have trouble breathing you might think differently. It's only the size of the atmosphere which has enabled you to think like that. China is now putting out so much muck that it must be landing in the USA. The biggest source of air pollution in the USA might be China already. I have watched the sun set in a cloudless sky over Beijing at about 30 degrees above the horizon. It just moved behind the muck in a big red ball.

With a bit of breeze, that muck blows "away". But "away" is where the USA is. You should see how clear and sharp the air is in the southern hemisphere, where there are so few people, we can't pollute it, even with bush fires in Australia being too brief and small to do it.
