I know you are not comfortable with your assertion and it's easy to casually say such things without much thought. Wikipedia [as usual] has lots of good information, confirming that your numbers were wrong for Jews in Shanghai. en.wikipedia.org The British were not the embodiment of all that was good in the world. So I'm not inclined to debate their management of the old Ottoman empire. It's all there in the record if you want it. Heck, the British even excommunicated me and my family - talk about ingrates! They let in loads of Islamic Jihad types, but not the Winn/Kirk/Bongard/Rossiter tribe. Okay, the Bongard was only recently British [following French revolution escape] but the rest were jolly well British old chap. English even, eh what! Daughter Emily was accepted recently for residency only because of her relationship with Aaron Chan [whose father escaped China's world record concentration camp to NZ] who is valuable for geek talents. All that stuff can be sorted out by people having tradable citizenships. If somebody wants to live somewhere, they should be able to buy a tradable citizenship either from the issuing government, or on the market from a departing citizen or their estate. That would make governments more responsive to what's a good thing to do and what isn't. Citizens would NOT like to see their citizenship going down in value because of some dopey new law, or decision to wage war against some foreigners who have been rude to the current political figurehead.
