What? Where did you get that idea? I must have dramatically changed my mind and developed amnesia too. Or, you got it wrong as usual: <.. you do remember what maurice had to say about the japanese, do you not, about how china would be in effect better off had japan had its way?>

Americans whose ancestors were slaves are better off than if their ancestors had remained slaves in Africa [I dare say and I haven't heard of "right of return" demands so I suspect they prefer the USA]. So such oddities can happen.

In some respects, China might have been better off if Japan had succeeded in conquest, as China might have avoided Maoistic mania and decades of poverty, with Japanese capital and technology combined with a billion upgrading Chinese. But that's so much absurd conjecture that it's pointless to ponder what might have been.

I have enough to do with what is actually happening and what will happen, let alone what has happened, and what might have happened if something that has happened hadn't happened.
