Hey, you missed the good part .

You said that Shanghai had umpty thousand hordes of Jews and umpty many accepted from the Nazis by the Japanese visa issuer.

In fact, the total seems to be more like 16,000 or so, and they arrived late in the 1930s [other than the earlier more established families]. And they were gone soon after the war.

It was an open port so visas were not necessary. That was established by the British during their negotiations for the management of Hong Kong and Shanghai etc.

It's interesting to read about stuff like that. But history is full of interesting stories and there's enough to be going on with today. Grandson has come to stay [a break for pregnant Melissa]. History can wait and is of limited interest compared with making history. Now he is supervising the keyboard. Fingers twitching to have a go.
