A very many years ago, I worked for a large corporation as an illustrator. I did that for some 7-8 years. I was good enough to stay employed, but not good enough to make any money, so I changed careers. I always told myself when I retire I'm going to take some painting classes and do landscapes. I've been retired over 3 years and have taken several classes.

I'm also my biggest critic and have never satisfied myself with my work. I seldom show it to anyone. Lately, however, I think I've gotten past a major hurdle that was in the way of starting a new painting. It's important to get rid of all that white canvas a new painting starts with. It's intimidating. I am working on just blocking in major shapes and values as quickly as I can. That gets past the white. Now I can work on refinements. I'm just into this a couple of efforts, but so far this has promise. Will let you know.
