Interesting, how you have become the defender of the American budget deficit on this thread.

All I've said is that debt is not a problem in and of itself if the debtor can service the payments. It doesn't mean I'm defending US budget policy. The first is a general statement, the second is a specific instance.

Its a pretty irrational position when you think about it.

It's not my position. I don't have enough understanding of US budget policy or global economics or the whole subject to preach my own position, so I'm just questioning the analysis of those the posters here who do claim to know what's best for the US. When I read that the currect budget deficit = suicide for the country, but I also read that GDP is expanding and unemployment is low, it raises questions. Either the economy is not doing well, or the poster claiming suicide for the country is flat out wrong. My hunch is that it's #2.

You're creating my position for me. I haven't said anything about the the US debt level being too high, too low, or just right. Frankly, I don't know.

I think it would be fairly easy to put together an argument that shows how untenable your position is.
