why not 'friends of shanghai' ? it is another place in china.

or 'pal of beijing'

'cousin of tianjin'

'bro of xian'

what's the difference? as those are also not nation-states, ever.

and here i am, 'resident of hong kong', but too long for a car tag

CB,
Folks who see that tag will figure you probably listen to "Air America" and NPR. <Grin>

I have a couple of very hard leftie cousins and they are both hot about Tibet, it is really a big issue for them, ranking up there with "global warming", impeaching Bush and putting Karl Rove in jail.

Decades ago when they thought that Mao's China was the font of agrarian socialism in the world you heard not a peep out of them about Tibet and those were the days when maybe Mao's agents really were on a rampage there. Back then they hated Taiwan, though.

Another cousin, now deceased, was a pilot in the Flying Tigers and as recently as the 1970's made a yearly trip, bringing his wife and kids, to Taiwan for an annual meeting of the surviving members, hosted by the Taiwan government. One leftie cousin, from the other side of the family thought that was terrible.
