US is at a disadvantage vis a vis other countries. It is the only country that has everything to lose and nothing much to gain. Facts: Until 20 years ago it had a the whole Europe, plus Japan, plus the usual hangers on Canada and New Zealand behind it Today? They may have Poland, Latvia and UK just because the UK has this spurious sense of being an world power albeit a second class one Until 20 years ago the G-7 would lock up on a hotel and would solve the monetary problem by doing a Louvre or a Plaza Agreement. Today? They have to go to China to try to cozy up. Now compare Chinese with Europeans on cozying up and see how much troublesome it is. Until 20 years ago, one could poit to a 600-ship navy and the MQ’s of this world would look in awe for the protection that a Forrestal could provide. Today? Even some road-bombers can defeat the US on a foreign ground in un-conventional war. Defeat the US in their ground or using conventional war it is clearly impossible. Obviously you can see that there has been an horrendous drop on the US standing both economically and power-projection in the world. This has not been acknowledged by the US citizen. What we have witnessed in the past 5 years is the US leadership trying to give the US population a sense of that power, that way they view themselves, like the monopoly of the virtue, the pacifier of troubled places and such, they want to persuade the population that it is still the same. That’s how one can assess the views of pezz, CB or hamoon. They still cling to a view of the US during the 60’s. We foreigners cannot be persuaded of that, because we are outsiders looking in, we also don’t share the outcome hence it is easier for us to see the issues in a more realistic way.
