Dealer of electric cars ready to roll
Austin Business Journal - 2:45 PM CST Wednesday
California electric car maker ZAP Power Systems Inc. can begin selling its XEBRA electric sedan and truck in Austin at a new dealership named Shock Value.

Shock Value owner John Martin received a dealer license from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and will officially open the dealership once all other regulatory hurdles are behind him.

He says it has been getting overwhelming interest from potential buyers and green car enthusiasts, many of which have gotten a glimpse of the unusual vehicles while they sit on the car lot along South Lamar Boulevard.

"I started this whole process as a consumer and my quest to get one in Texas quickly led me to a relationship with ZAP," he says.

ZAP is setting up a nationwide network of licensed dealers to sell its affordable, zero-emission electric vehicles.

"The XEBRA brings a lot of benefits for fleet applications, utilities, busy multi-car families, environmentally friendly drivers and everyone who wants to make a difference," says ZAP CEO Steve Schneider.

The XEBRA plugs into any 110 volt outlet and has 90 percent less emission than regular cars.

It comes as a four-seat XEBRA sedan or a two-seat truck, with a pickup truck configuration that converts into a flatbed or dump bed.

It's also possible to add a rooftop solar panel to increase the battery life with solar energy.

ZAP (OTCBB: ZAAP) has delivered over 90,000 vehicles to consumers in more than 75 countries since 1994.
