"Do you think we've always been good at it from the get go? Probably......huh?"

It started with WW II, when we became "the arsenal of democracy", then mutated into the "military-industrial complex" Ike warned us about. Cold war fears kept the weapons coming. Now, the rag-tag terrorists are used to fearmonger, since each one of them is capable of 9/11.

Before WW II, we really weren't too involved in weapons production, and started that war with a bunch of obsolete crap from WW I.

Now, as our military officers rotate into their lucrative post-military careers in the weapons industries and congresspeople like Jane Harmon (bombers - she wears a bomber pin on her lapel - it's built in her district) and many others, we're stuck with being the world's top weapons builder. I'm sure it's our main industry now, probably certainly our leading export.
