Yes he was even though the press attacked him unmercifully; he was at all times honest to himself... I've met him three of four times and he was always a regular guy. When he pardoned Nixon, that was the beginning of the out and out hatred of the press, but he had no choice, the country had to move on...and unlike Clinton, at least Nixon resigned. The Press also made fun of his clumsiness, but he was an All American, how many of those little prissy wimps could even throw a whiffle ball, let alone throw one and talk?
