There's nothing obscene about the oil companies making good money. What's obscene is giving tax breaks to companies that already have plenty of market incentive to invest in plenty of oil drilling opportunities to ensure they keep making money. It's applied economics, which you probably didn't pay attention to in school. When the price of oil is high, all sorts of investments make sense and the oil companies know it. That's why they are drilling deeper in the oceans and why oil sands now make economic sense. When market incentives are working, you don't need government interference through tax breaks and royalty incentives. It makes no economic sense, because those tax breaks and royalty incentives have no impact except to rob the poor to pay the rich.

I thought you believed in small government and less intervention by the government, which used to be a hallmark of the Republican party. But with every post you make, it is clearer to everyone on these threads that you don't really believe in the old Republican ideals and that this Republican party no longer represents the true old guard Republicans like myself.

You would much rather this country fight wars in far off places to secure our oil supplies and fight the war on terror, while you fund the enemy through giving them massive oil profits. You and your ilk make no sense whatsoever. You're just following a madman as he takes the plunge off a bridge. Just remember, Bush is already a millionaire. So the person he's hurting is you. He'll survive the mess he's making of our country, while you and your children, as well as mine, will bear the brunt of the mess he's making.

Looks like the Democrats are the only ones in step with the American people's focus on renewables.

No, the dems are the only ones spewing the rhetoric everyone laps up. Algore didn't do anything in eight years; the dems aren't going to do anything either except maybe raise taxes on the "evil" oil companies making the "obscene" 10% profits...

How could you possibly know? You are the worst judge of people.......after all, you voted for Bush twice.
