Of course it is meant for news stories. The media recycle stories every week.
If only actual new information was reported, all the pundits would vanish from the screen, Rush Limbaugh would have long ago had to go find honest work, and the networks would be able to pull together enough material for maybe one new newscast a week.... As for newspapers.. they'd become quite thin, or go to weekly publication as well.
