Kyrosl, related to the cost of commodities and the graph you posted it ignores the many technological and bio technological advances in producing/extracting/growing those commodities.

For example corn in E. Europe, grown with conventional/older farming practices yields 1/3 of the harvest if compared to the US on the same parcel of fertile land.

Another factor not taken into account is GM grains who grow in less fertile land and the fact that most renewable commodities are more pest resistant than 20 years ago.

AS to hard commodities mining techniques improved substantially - I do not have hard figures as are oil and gas extraction techniques and avoidance of more "dry holes".

In all categories big strides were made during the last 20 years and we are closing in to a "plateau" of innovation ver. profitability. As usual thing are not so simple as we would like <g>
