What comes to mind was the time I was in Circuit City looking in vain for a non-existent drive they had a nice sale on and observing the discomfort of a newbie customer as the salesman explains stuff in tech-speak and keeps trying to sell all sorts of stuff that she "needs" with her new computer and the customer trying not to appear too clueless and maintain some semblance of dignity.

Then I'm in the Apple store the salesepeople seem genuinely trying to help and educate their customers and, oh yeah, possibly sell their goods. Sure they want to sell "AppleCare" also, but very low key.

At least this was my recent observation.

The Apple store really impressed me (5th Ave, NYC)

The coolness pervades but doesn't smother (as is the case when some stores try to be "cool")
