Only a very tiny proportion of BRIC reserves is gold. Their biggest holding by far is ... US DOLLARS. Their holdings of gold as a percent of their total reserves are:
Brazil 0.3%
Russia 2.8%
India 4.1%
China 1.2%

These percentages are far far smaller than the G-7 percentages. It seems that BRIC countries have a lot less trust in gold than the G-7. Or the G-7 are stuck with a lot more gold than they really want.
