This is very worthwhile advice. Back in my trapping days on snowshoes, I avoided tree wells for this very reason.

Once my friend Bill and I were horsing around on the snowshoe trail a few miles from the road. Bud chastised us for the horseplay and left no doubt in our minds as to the seriousness of an injury in that environment.

Yesterday I saw Mt. Hood from a peak that was half as high and thirty miles away. I did not envy those men who lost their lives up there a few weeks ago.

But more than that I felt for all the people who risks their lives searching for them.

We lost a very good friend in the early 1990's....Stevens...end of day, last run....hit ice, then trees....DOA at Harborview. He was an instructor at Stevens sometimes....in fact, he instructed the instructors....

SOOOO Sad.....He left my good friend as his widow, and three very young children.

That's why I get spooked... He did have friends with him, but his edge caught the ice, and off he went. They were inbounds too...At least he was until the skidding....

Someone could make LOTS of money if an inexpensive device could be made for not only sporting events, but just taking kids to the shopping center so they don't get lost....
