Well, perhaps you can find some contemporaries who were enemies of humankind that lived during Teddy Roosevelt's time. I'd like to see some of his time that were worse than the ones you mentioned and who lived in the last half of the 20th century, some into this century.

As far as "be careful", my error and was in a hurry. I'm sorry for the confusion. You certainly don't have to be careful because I had some Quaker ancestors....But the "be careful" comment was that there may be some current Quakers or pacifists here on SI...and we don't want to hurt their feelings, do we?

And as far as your comment about conscription-- those were the "times," and we can't undo a time we don't live in. We can only try to understand those times, and if we don't like them, change ours, or at the minimum, at least understand why things were done.

I have all sorts of respect for pacifists of today, IF they actually spend their time trying to help people as I noted in the last post. It is when they run away, and do nothing for mankind, that I think they are cowards.
