Like Vietnam, Iraq is a lost cause for the US. Whenever a president lies to take us into a needless war, sells an artificial reality, makes the war his ego trip, throws US troops in the middle of a civil war, backs corrupt leaders and turns its back on diplomacy and wise advice we will lose.

We killed 2 million in Vietnam and it made no difference. We could stay in Iraq for 20 years and it would make no difference. Once the quagmire is created you can't win. All you can do is the smart thing, get out ASAP and regroup.

In the end, Saddam's death has only created a vaccuum into which Islamic extremists have filled the gap, exactly the types we should not be empowering, especially with a hostile Iran and Syria nextdoor.

Now is the time for diplomacy and steady withdrawl. It is not defeatism, this war was lost before it even began, because Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld did not prepare to win the peace, and paid little if any attention to reality.

Also, in the end, we really have no reason for being in Iraq. Just like Vietnam. We invaded a country which never attacked us claiming we know what's best for them. despite the efforts of many brave US troops, it's all for nothing, in fact worse than nothing. It's a huge tragic waste of US lives, prestige and treasure.
