We DID deliver a sledgehammer blow. It was called Afghanistan. We went right in there (with the entire world's support) and took that country away from the Taliban and their Al Quaeda friends. THAT had every terrorist supporting regime in the Middle East shaking in their boots and gave us the military/moral highground. If we had dedicated our resources to turning Afghanistan into a democratic/economic success story instead of just leaving it hanging and going into Iraq, we could have used that as leverage to influence the entire Middle East. Saying things like "deliver a blow to the world of islam that will never be forgotten" may seem like a brilliant idea to a bunch of guys sitting at a bar, but it don't quite make it in the REAL WORLD.
