Thanks. Schlesinger is in rare good form here. His more recent writings had been not up to his past work and I wrote it off to age. And, as a result, made the mistake of not reading his column in the Times this morning.

But this one is quite good.

Excellent article, and well-written.
Maybe we need to make it a requirement that our presidential candidates pass an exam on history and philosophy before they can run. Forget being governor for a term.
Or create a new position- Secretary of History. Two of them, one from each party, who can say, "ooo, invade another country? Remember when....."
