[i've found that temporarily good or bad snow conditions can often have a lasting impact on a person's perception of a particular resort] it's difficult to select a best run for either mountain but i'll give it a try. on Whistler, IF the bottom 3rd of the mountain has fresh conditions, i absolutely suggest doing the 'peak to creek' route via the new terrain (far right on the trail map) at least once. that means going up the peak chair and then, for the more adventurous, heading down thru West bowl, tho if you want to you can follow the signs for a comparably easy path. after you're about a third of the way down the mountain skip the Highway 86 catwalk and head into the ungroomed, rolling terrain such as Dusty's Descent, or Big Timber. again, make sure the conditions are good or you'll end up taking off your skies and walking down the last portion of the mountain. reward yourself by grabbing a burger at the restaurant in creekside. take the gondola back up, hop the big red express afterward, and you are back at mid-mountain. leave here in any direction and head for trails such as Orange Peel>Bear Paw>into Unsanctioned, or Raven>Club 21> into Side Order. on Blackcomb: I have spent an entire day lapping the 7th Heaven chair. Start on skiers left (Lakeside Bowl) and then work your way over to the right, moving 15-20 yards w/ each successive run until you've skied nearly 180 degrees (Everglades). Later that day, or perhaps the next, if you're feeling up to it , climb Spanky's Ladder and head off into Garnet/Ruby bowl and the glacier, where the snow will stay good for many days after a storm. Also, be sure to take a look at Couloir Extreme as you go up the Jersey Cream Express. Think you've got the guts? Access is behind the Horstman's Hut. This one is way steep and had me shaking in my boots. Instead, I mostly prefer gladed runs.. and Blackcomb has plenty of these. Raptor's Ridge>catwalk> into Pruned Paradise as one example, or Rider's Revenge> into In The Spirit as another. The bottom 3rd of Blackcomb is a waste of time unless you want to hit some high speed groomers. Keep in mind: Trying to link all these runs is a real pain. This place is simply massive, so don't spend too much time trying to plan your trek each day. It's too easy to miss a turn here or a chair lift there, and before you know it you're in some place entirely different than where you had planned. One need only follow the fall-line in order find something fun. JMO!
